Paternity leave extended to 20 days in some cases

The 15-day paternity leave is enjoyed more and more by more parents. Although everyone would like to spend more days with the newborn, we cannot deny that the permission for the father has been a great step towards equality, and the grateful mothers.

But especially in certain circumstances, the first days with the baby seem to fall short. That's why the government has extended the paternity leave from 15 to 20 days from January 1, 2009 in the following cases:

● When the new birth or adoption occurs in a large family ● When the family acquires such condition with the new birth ● When there is a person with a disability in the family.

A newborn always needs a lot of attention, both from the father and the mother, but especially in these cases, they have understood that extra attention and care are required. Although 5 days are not the panacea, it is one more step towards the four weeks of paternity leave they have promised for within 5 years.

In addition, the permit will be extended to 22 days for each child from the second if one of them is born with a disability.

No less important is to comment that an amendment has also been approved to be considered as a large family single parents with two dependent children, which taking into account the high figures in Spain of single women with dependent families is very good news. This way they can benefit from grants, scholarships and grants that will help alleviate them on a daily basis.
