"The manager", a short film about bullying and adult responsibility

Today is celebrated on International Day against bullying, also known as Day against "bullying", with the objective of raising awareness about this problem that affects millions of schoolchildren worldwide. Today we bring you an excellent short film about bullying entitled "The Manager", which makes us reflect on the responsibility that adults, and specifically teachers, we face this harassment.

And, in the face of the injustice or abuse of power suffered by schoolchildren in the classroom, not only is the bully responsible, as we saw in a recent campaign. Dumb witnesses to situations of violence, as well as those who do not take the necessary measures to detect harassment, also have their share of responsibility.

Recall that bullying can be accentuated over time and cause a person to suffer from depression that can lead them to not attend class, leave school or even in the most serious cases isolate themselves and attempt suicide. That is why it is important not to shut up in the face of this type of violence and be alert to the signs to detect if a child suffers bullying.

"The manager" is a short by Sergio Barrejón, with script by himself and Nacho Vigalondo, produced in 2009 and nominated for the Goya Award. He received more than 20 awards at festivals around the world. Although the class he presents (with children between eight and ten years old) seems quite unreal to me, as from another time (the way they are sitting, how they are explained, their silence, the fact of leaving them alone ...) yes we can recognize "the bully" and the accomplices, as well as the harassed, in a situation that unfortunately is current.

In the short, the child in charge of targeting who misbehaves when the teacher is not brave, has faced the stalker even his accomplices. But those guts he has shown are not going to be rewarded, because when the teacher returns he ignores what he had pointed to the board, the child who has misbehaved and supposedly go straight to the principal's office, the child who He has thrown balls and insulted him and his family, threatening him.

With this fact, the bully ends up seeing his performance reinforced and, with a rather disturbing ending, we fear that it will not be the last time he harasses the other child, even his violence against him is likely to increase. The ignorance of the teacher and not having kept his word (the child believed in him!) Will be the culprits.

We leave you with this short for reflection on the International Day against bullying. A problem that we should all pay attention to and not neglect in the classrooms, in the playgrounds, in the park ... Attending to the signals of our students and showing them our closeness, our active listening, our observation, our interest, support and trust, something that shines by his absence in this fiction teacher.
