Gestational diabetes is related to the consumption of fast food

Pizzas, hamburgers, hot dogs, ketchup fries ... It may sound delicious and appetizing, but only occasionally. And is that regular consumption of fast food before pregnancy is a risk factor for gestational diabetes, according to a study.

We already know that this type of food is not recommended for children, although occasionally an "extra" can be done. Nor for women who expect a baby does fast food or junk food do much good. Obesity favored by the high content of saturated fats and cholesterol is at the heart of the matter.

The study, carried out by researchers from the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Navarra, has been published in the specialized journal "Plos One", and has been carried out thanks to the monitoring of more of 3,000 pregnant women of the SUN Project (University of Navarra Follow-up), in which 159 cases of gestational diabetes have been confirmed.

A high consumption of fast food favors obesity, and this is related to gestational diabetes (Even if the mother consumes this food and has weight problems before pregnancy). On the contrary, healthy diets, such as the Mediterranean diet, prevent it in many cases.

Recall that gestational diabetes is the presence of high blood glucose (diabetes) that begins or is first diagnosed during pregnancy. It is a very common disease during pregnancy and can carry risks to the health of the mother and the baby. Children are more at risk of obesity and have glucose intolerance and diabetes throughout childhood and adulthood.

Remember also that smoking during pregnancy increases the risk of this disease in daughters and perpetuate the problem, so there are sufficient reasons not to do so.

Too fast food must be left out during pregnancy, to prevent gestational diabetes and other health problems at this stage. And, why not, you have to start with healthy habits before you even get pregnant.
