We could not miss this premiere, and on Friday I went with my son to the first session and we have seen "Ice Age 4, the formation of the continents". We are true fans of these films, we love their way of approaching children to live prehistory and also, everything must be said, the black humor of their characters. But the movie, without being bad, we have been disappointed.
Actually, what is worth the movie is what appears in the trailers and the rest, I have found stuffing and with few surprises. My opinion is that they have decided to continue taking advantage of the original idea and, although it is valid to spend a pleasant family movie afternoon, it does not surprise or dazzle.
The previous deliveries overflowed imagination in each of its minutes. It is true that there was violence, perhaps excessive in the first, in which the death of relatives of the characters seems to me to be an unnecessary narrative resource in children's films and it bothers me that it is used.
But it was compensated by the action, the surprising situations, the reproduced scenarios, the way to resolve the conflicts of the characters and the lively dialogues.
And here it fails. Sid's family, which barely appears, is a discovery and could have given much more. The conflict between the father and the teenage daughter, predictable and contributing little. The little animal that looks like a mixture of mole and hedgehog, cheesy and graceless.
The ugly and boring pirates, I had plenty left over, they seemed like a bad copy of the Pirates of the Caribbean or the Hook crew passed by a stuffed animal centrifuge. I was tired of all the pirate scenes, they didn't get us excited or interested.
Anything good you will have? Of course, seeing them again looks forward, but both Manny and Diego are blurred. Sid is still hilarious but out of his jokes and his relationship with his wonderful grandmother does not have the usual role. The two appearances of opossums Crash and Eddie are great, but they are two phrases what they have.
And the scenes with which it begins and ends are magnificent "Ice Age 4", of which I will not tell you anything, only that the Scrat squirrel is still looking for his acorn and creating catastrophes in its path.
As for the quality of the animation, the scenes in which the world changes and mountain ranges rise if they impress, but the sea offers little chance of astonishment and the ice ships are not enough to ecstasy us.
Summarizing, "Ice Age 4, the formation of the continents", is not a movie that you won't see, but it did not seem to me that it reaches the level of the previous ones nor that it is especially recommended for children under six years. It is not that it is bad, and it is certain that many spectators will be excited, but we have found it disappointing. And it is almost impossible to reach the level of previous deliveries.
