Can I bathe my child if he is sick or has been vaccinated?

One of the questions that many mothers and fathers usually ask when they are about to leave the pediatrician or nurse's office is: Can i bathe him?

The question comes after being diagnosed with a pathology, say respiratory, which is the most common (bronchitis, bronchiolitis, cold, laryngitis, ... itis, etc.) or some gastroenteritis, for example, if it leaves the pediatrician's office.

If instead he went to see the nurse, the question comes after he has put one or two vaccines with their respective strips.

Then it is when a pediatrician and a nurse respond “well… yes”, thus, with a pause between the “well” and the “yes” because they try to decipher, in that small period of time, what is the possible contraindication or what motivates that a mother or father come to ask about the good or bad that can be the contact of water with the skin of a child.

The truth is that today there is no disease that contraindicates a bath (beyond the atopic skin of some children, who have a little bad theme of hot water). Moreover, for hygiene and why it seems that you stay cleaner and quieter, it is usually preferable to give a child a bath. If you have a little fever or fever you have to assess how it is. If it is lively and you want to give it a quick bath, it can be done, as long as the water is hot as usual (if it is warm or cold we run the risk of the body trying to warm up to counteract, and it is much worse); and if you have mucus the water vapor will help to undo them a little. If it does not have mucus or fever, it does not matter, as I say, it is not bad.

In the same way that there is no disease that contraindicates a bath, there is also no vaccine against water, so five seconds after receiving a vaccine a child can take a quiet bath. Better if you do not make much movement with the muscle that has been punctured, but normally, because of the pain of the puncture, it is the children themselves who do not abuse the affected limb.

So you know, if someone asks you about the bathroom, or if on occasion you have been tempted to ask if you can bathe your child, the answer is yes, you can bathe him.
