Contaminated milk in Argentina

In Argentina a batch of contaminated canister milk has been located for salmonella and is being removed. The brand of this milk is Neocate, produced by SHS International, a subsidiary of Danone.

Neocate milk is formulated for children with metabolic problems and the authorities have indicated that the contamination puts their health at risk.

Children who have consumed milk from the batch that is being removed should go to be checked by a doctor.

The marketing firm has sent a statement informing that there is only one contaminated lot, but, reading the police statements, it seems that the case may have many more serious implications.

The investigating judge has said very disturbing words: "This is a real disaster and behind these disasters there are criminals, murderers ... What matters most to me as a judge is to get all this milk that is poisoned out of circulation."

As we have seen on several occasions, canister milk powder does not guarantee sterility and it is possible that it may appear contaminated by various kinds of bacteria.

Although, fortunately, it is not a common problem, if there are periodically cases that make us think seriously about the safety of the food we consume and that we give to our children.

In many countries it is already normal to buy artificial milk for children liquid and sterilized, since although it is more expensive, it guarantees much more protection against bacterial contamination.
