2008 RACE child retention systems report

We already know the importance of having a good child restraint system in our vehicle. The Royal Automobile Club of Spain (RACE) has just published a 2008 report on child restraint systems (SRI) in the car.

The analysis has been carried out together with other European club cars, and they have been done safety tests (through frontal and lateral shocks, belt adjustment, stability and head restraint), and also taking into account factors such as ease of use and comfort.

In total they have been analyzed 40 sales models in Europe and, as happened in last year's edition, only one chair has obtained the "Very Satisfactory" qualification, specifically the model RÖMER Baby Safe Plus Isofix. On the other hand, 19 models have been classified as "Satisfactory", 13 as "Acceptable", 1 has not passed the exam when obtaining the qualification of "Unsatisfactory", and it is surprising that up to 6 have obtained the worst grade, "Very Unsatisfactory" , even more than the last edition.

This year, the study has included 40 products that comprise all available weight classes. Four large groups have been evaluated: safety, ease of use, comfort and characteristics of use, the first two groups being the most important at the time of the final evaluation.

Apart from safety, ease of use is taken into account, which measures improper handling, belt placement, installation and operating instructions. A badly placed chair can be completely useless in terms of child protection, so we must always pay attention to this point.

It is interesting, if the purchase of these life-saving systems is planned, take a look at the detailed analysis of each model found in the full report, in which the Romer and Casualplay brands stand out positively.
