The UK alcohol industry will incorporate deterrent messages for future moms in their packaging

In the post Absolutely no alcohol during pregnancy, we showed the new recommendations offered by the United Kingdom Department of Health regarding alcohol consumption during pregnancy. Today we know an initiative in the same line that will allow for the next year that alcoholic beverages in the United Kingdom incorporate the relevant health warnings to suggest future moms to avoid them.

The English government has signed an agreement with the companies that make alcoholic beverages to carry out this initiative and although it is not known exactly what the messages will be, it is known that they will be as blunt as those that appear in the snuff packs. The important thing is to dissuade all future moms so that they do not consume any type of alcohol, there are many investigations that show serious consequences of their intake in pregnancy in future babies.

Until now, the information provided on the packaging by the alcohol industry was somewhat concise and it has been somewhat difficult to reach an agreement with the companies involved, the negotiation has lasted three years. Despite this, it is not yet known how many companies will provide the information on their labels, but depending on that, a new law will be applied that will force all of them to incorporate these messages, since for now, the agreement reached is friendly character.

What is not understood is why companies have offered so much resistance to incorporate the messages and more knowing what the fatal consequences are. We hope that this measure will be supported by all the countries of the European Union shortly.
