Identical triplets are born, a case among a million

The chances of giving birth to identical triplets is one in a million They are much less than winning the lottery. But better than the lottery, a Detroit couple has received the best prizes: they have had three beautiful babies conceived naturally and with an added exceptionality: they are identical.

What does this mean being identical? We explain it. It does not mean that they will all have the same fingerprint or the same character, that is not possible, but what characterizes genetically identical triplets is that share the same genetic material, and of course, they are the same sex.

It is a very strange triple twin pregnancy case. The three children are the result of the fertilization of an egg and a sperm which has been divided into three embryos in the first stage of pregnancy.

In 98% of multiple pregnancies, fetuses come from a different egg and develop in a different placenta and each with its own amniotic sac. In the remaining 2% of cases, identical triplets share a placenta, and they may also share the amniotic bag, share it with only two fetuses, or each have their own bag.

Mike and Lauren Whiteley already have little Timothy, Alexander and Nicholas at home who were born at 34 weeks gestation and have stayed in the neonatal intensive care unit for a month. The couple already had two previous children, to which the three new members are added, so now they have at home five children under 4 years. Undoubtedly, they are waiting for very busy years.
